Your feedback is needed for an important survey of the BC child care workforce
The British Columbia government – with support from the Government of Canada – has a 10-year plan to increase the quality, affordability and availability of childcare. This includes an ‘Early Care and Learning Recruitment and Retention Strategy’ to support people who work in childcare. This ECL R&R Strategy includes:
- Wage enhancements
- Student bursaries
- Professional development and
- Training supports
ECEBC is coordinating an evaluation of the Early Care and Learning Recruitment and Retention Strategy. The evaluation is funded the Province of British Columbia. We have asked the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) – a non-profit research organization – to help with the evaluation. SRDC has developed the evaluation plan, including this survey, with sector representatives.
The survey provides an opportunity for child care centre operators/supervisors and child care professionals to let the BC government know:
How is this strategy working for you?
The aim of the evaluation is to hear from the entire sector to ensure that the results accurately reflect what is happening in child care across the province. We want to know the impacts of the ECL R&R Strategy on BC's child care workforce. The survey will be repeated each year until October 2021 to measure any changes over time.
When will the Survey Take Place?
Owner/operators of child care centres: SRDC will be emailing its database of child care centres in October with the link to the survey and more detailed instructions. (The database was build by sourcing child cares on websites and open data.) Each survey link is unique and only SRDC will have access to the survey data. We will ask you to forward the survey link to all your staff who work directly with children. Your help in sharing the survey will be crucial to ensuring that everyone working in the child care sector has the chance for their voice to be heard. We would like to hear from both child care centre operators/supervisors and early care professionals who work directly with children.
Early Care and Learning Professionals: Many of you will receive the survey link from your manager or supervisor. For those who don’t receive it (or don’t currently work in child care) we will be promoting the survey on social media. We will share the link with other organizations and stakeholders as well, for them to share out. This will happen in late October. Stay tuned.
Would you or a member of your community prefer to complete the survey offline? There will be assistance available via a toll-free helpline for anyone who needs help to complete the survey.
