TRU’s Williams Lake campus is located approximately three hours northwest of Kamloops, in the heart of the scenic Cariboo region, on T’exelcemc territory within the unceded traditional lands of the Secwepemc Nation.

Thompson Rivers University is seeking one or more sessional faculty members who will teach ECED 1200: Practicum 1- Developing Relationships with children, at four credits for each section, in Williams Lake from September 3, 2024, to December 14, 2024.
Calendar description:
This is an innovative field practice course designed to allow students to apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to become an effective educator of young children. Students have repeated opportunities to practice observation and documentation techniques, prepare the learning environment, develop relationships with children, and guide behavior with the mentorship of early childhood educators and a practicum instructor. Students integrate theoretical knowledge, use reflective practice and demonstrate professional conduct.

QUALIFICATIONS

Of particular interest are those who have successful experience working collaboratively with ECE faculty to support ECE students in planning and implementing innovative educational programs for young children.  Experience supporting and evaluating student progress in on-site and in community based practica and liaising with community educators regarding student progress is significantly valued.
•    Relevant successful teaching experience in early childhood education programs for 3–5-year-olds is required; 
•    Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogical narrations and innovative programs for young children is required; 
•    Demonstrated expertise in the course topic areas is required; 
•    Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required; 
•    Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required; 
•    Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) is required; 
•    Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills is required; 
•    A Master of Education or equivalent in a relevant field is preferred. Equivalent qualifications and/or experience will be considered, such as professional qualifications or where the candidate has accumulated experience and accomplishments judged to be particularly relevant and valuable to the discipline. One example of equivalent qualification would be an individual with a Master of Arts degree plus five years’ experience in a professional setting commensurate with the teaching area or professional role in which they will be employed, with demonstrated evidence of significant professional development activity over the five-year period;
•    Successful teaching experience in post-secondary institutions is preferred.
