ECED 1340: Communication

Calendar description:

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a sessional faculty member who will teach ECED 1340: Communication, a three-credit course, in Kamloops from September 3, 2024 to December 14, 2024.

Effective interdependent relationships are essential to the work of early childhood educators. Self-awareness, and an ongoing commitment to become a competent communicator are fundamental to the development of positive relationships. An emphasis on personal reflection offers students the opportunity to learn and use interpersonal communication skills effectively. Students examine the qualities of ethical, constructive, and respectful communication.

The following are Preferred Qualifications:

• A Master of Education or equivalent in a relevant field. Equivalent qualifications and/or experience will be considered, such as professional qualifications or where the candidate has accumulated experience and accomplishments judged to be particularly relevant and valuable to the discipline. A specific example of an equivalent qualification would be a Master of Arts degree plus five years’ experience in a professional setting commensurate with the teaching area or professional role in which they will be employed, with demonstrated evidence of significant professional development activity over the five-year period;
• Successful teaching experience in post-secondary institutions.

Qualifications: 

Of particular interest are those who have successful experience working collaboratively with ECE faculty to support ECE students in planning and implementing innovative educational programs for young children.  Experience supporting and evaluating student progress in on-site and community based practica and liaising with community educators regarding student progress is significantly valued.

The following are Required Qualifications:

• Relevant successful teaching experience in early childhood education programs for 3–5-year-olds;
• Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogical narrations and innovative programs for young children;
• Demonstrated expertise in the course topic areas;
• Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62);
• Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 62);
• Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10);
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
