The School of Education at Thompson Rivers University is seeking a faculty member to serve as Practica Coordinator on our Williams Lake campus. This position is a time-limited opportunity of 17.5 hours instructional support / coordination per week plus 50% instructional assignment (four courses in the academic year), making this a full-time limited term contract position beginning in August 2024 and continuing until August 2025 for an individual who has expertise in Early Childhood Education field work. 

Further Description:

There are three practica that are completed by our ECE candidates during their regular program. The first begins in Williams Lake in the fall semester of 2024. The practica coordinator will communicate with Sponsor Educators and establish the routines relationships that facilitate the coordination of practica.

This includes: 
•    finding appropriate practica placements (in licensed early learning programs, with certified early childhood educators) 
•    working with the ECE Program Coordinator to adapt the current practica model for delivery in community-based sites. This will involve:
o    the adaptation and use of online/hardcopy learning portfolios, feedback templates, practica manuals, and other written materials and required paperwork. 
o    clear communication with students, Sponsor Educators, faculty, and administrators.

As the ECE program is regulated by the ECE Registry, the practica coordinator will also contribute to reporting and communicating with the ECE Registry for programming related to ECE in Williams Lake. Click here for more information about TRU’s ECE Program.

Experience working collaboratively with ECE faculty to support ECE students in planning and implementing innovative educational programs for young children, as well as experience supporting and evaluating student progress in on-site and community based practica and liaising with community educators regarding student progress is significantly valued.


•    Relevant successful teaching experience in early childhood education programs for 3–5-year-olds is required;
•    Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogical narrations and innovative programs for young children is required; 
•    Demonstrated expertise in the course topic areas is required;
•    Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required; 
•    Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required; 
•    Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) is required; 
•    Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills is required;

Required Experience:

A Master of Education or equivalent in a relevant field is preferred. Equivalent qualifications and/or experience will be considered, such as professional qualifications or where the candidate has accumulated experience and accomplishments judged to be particularly relevant and valuable to the discipline. One example of equivalent qualification would be an individual with a Master of Arts degree plus five years’ experience in a professional setting commensurate with the teaching area or professional role in which they will be employed, with demonstrated evidence of significant professional development activity over the five-year period. Successful teaching experience in post-secondary institutions is preferred. 

Salary & Benefits:

$73,665.93 - $114,124.39 ( According to TRUFA Salary Schedule (Range TS01 - TS12)
