We are looking for committed and caring Early Childhood Educators with Special Needs specialization to join our Munu Learning Centre Team.

Early Childhood Educators with Special Needs specialization interested in this position will demonstrate exceptional standards of practice and competency in the Early Childhood Educator profession.  Individuals will demonstrate leadership capacities that support the program to deliver small group programming, or pod style model of care. 

Candidates must be passionate about supporting children’s diverse needs and strive to provide a high-quality early childhood programs to Indigenous children and families.  Interested applicants will focus attention to offering creative culturally grounded programming through child-led and inquiry based approach, fostering  wonder and excitement for children.  The intention of the AHS childcare program is to provide a rich inclusive early learning experience founded in Indigenous culture and language. This heart-centered work requires strong communication skills and interpersonal skills to engage in meaningful relationships with children and families.

Interested candidates must be familiar with or willing to learn, the six programming components of Aboriginal Head Start Childcare programs: culture and language, parent and family involvement, social support, education, health promotion and nutrition.  Individuals applying for the position must be innovative in building the six-programming components into the daily childcare program.

Responsibilities

  1. To participate in the planning and delivery of high-quality early years program a Munu Early Learning Centre, guided by the AHS Principles and Guidelines.
  2. Commitment to grow caring relationships with children and families, reflecting AHS philosophy of and intergenerational family wellness program.
  3. Co-lead the Munu Program through a primary care (pod) model of early childhood education and care.
  4. Oversight and support to ensure the diverse needs of children in the respective pods are met-observations, care planning, implementation of care plan.
  5. Primary lead and responsibility for family communications.
  6. Support the team to implement an inquiry based, child-led approach to programming.
  7. Work closely with the Munu Administrative Lead for overall operations of the program.
  8. A personal commitment to grow the profession and personal attributes necessary to meet the needs of the children and families attending the AHS program. 
  9. Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities. 
  10. Promote and advocate for high quality early childhood education, Aboriginal Head Start services that reflect the AHS Principles and Guidelines and the BC Early Learning Framework. 
  11. Reports directly to the Munu Learning Centre Administrative Lead

Qualifications:

Post Basic ECE

Additional Qualifications:

  • Holds a current Early Childhood Educator and Special Needs Educator Certificates (Issued by the ECE Registry of BC)
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Experience and knowledge with Aboriginal Head Start.
  • Knowledge, experience, and awareness of diverse Indigenous cultures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Professional written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent documentation, time/priority management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, to analyze a situation, and to develop an approach and plan of action.
  • Creativity and innovation in inspiring high quality program delivery.
  • Experience using program evaluation tools such as ECERS-3 and ITERS-3 – Training an asset.
  • Experience working with Elders.
  • Experience working with Parents in programs.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Compensation rate ECE at $29/hour dependent on qualifications and experience.
  • Additional wage enhancement initiative grant offered at $6/hour ($35/hour wage total)

  • Regular scheduled monthly professional development closures to support quality programming.
  • Full-time, permanent position based on 35 hours per week.
