Archived: ECE Education Support Fund

Published: October 1st, 2019

Due to unprecedented demand, the Education Support Fund has almost expended its budget for this year and will no longer be accepting bursary applications after October 11, 2019. This applies to both the ECE Bursary Program and the ECE Workforce Development Fund.

Since September 2018, the Fund has awarded more than 4,700 bursaries to help students with their ECE education goals. While this is a huge step towards meeting the growing demand for certified early childhood educators in BC, we recognize this news will be disappointing for some students.

ECEBC is currently working with the Ministry of Children and Family Development on next steps for this program, including an evaluation to gauge its impact on increasing the quantity and skill level of ECE professionals working in BC.

What does this mean for ECE students?

  1. Applications received before October 11, 2019 will be processed and prioritized with students who started their studies through this bursary program (since Sept 2018) and are applying for continued funding to complete their studies being given first priority.
  2. Any remaining applications will be waitlisted in case additional resources become available.
  3. Applications received after October 11 will not be processed.
  4. If you wish to be notified of any future changes to the status of the Education Support Fund, please email ECEBC at updates@ecebc.ca include your name and email address in the body of the email.
